Our People

Thea Humphries

(MM, The Juilliard School; BM, Eastman School of Music)

Thea Humphries is a Horn Fellow at the New World Symphony, and a 2022 Knight Foundation Arts Champion. Originally from Ottawa, Canada, she has performed with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Utah Symphony, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, Orlando Philharmonic, Charleston Symphony, and Syracuse’s Symphoria.

Thea is passionate about education and audience engagement. As a fellow in Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect, she was an active chamber musician, and performed and taught in educational programs and interactive performances throughout NYC. Thea was a Morse Fellow while at Juilliard, teaching beginning band at PS 191 in Manhattan. She also served as a mentor for the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestras, and has conducted workshops for elementary school children in New York City. At NWS, she is actively involved in Community Engagement, and takes a special interest in writing scripts for education and family concerts.

Zachary Ragent

(SM/MM, University of Michigan; BM, UC Santa Cruz)

Zachary is a violin fellow with the New World Symphony. A California native, Mr. Ragent has performed with various orchestras across the country, and now spends his summers at the Peninsula Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin. A committed educator, Mr. Ragent is a Suzuki certified teacher and has taught for el Sistema based programs in both California and Michigan.
